JOB SUMMARY
 


This individual will be joining the tax team of a fast growing (Private Equity Owned) national company. Responsibilities include obtaining data from operating companies and completing sales and use tax filings in multi-state jurisdictions.  Must be able to analyze sales tax data and combine data in preparing returns.  A willingness to work in a fast-past environment, multi-task, and desire to learn and adjust as the company uses Avalara and Vertex to file sales tax returns.
 



 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

 

  • Obtain data from different ERP systems to be combined for the monthly processing of sales and use tax returns.  

  • Transition compliance of newly acquired entities into our Vertex software and assist in transition from manual to automated tax filings.  Identify and make recommendations of process improvements to the tax team or operating controllers. 

  • Serve as a technical resource on tax rates and rules for operating companies and internal resources as needed.  Ability and willingness to research rules if required. 

  • Import Data into Avalara tax software to reconcile to ERP sales data. 

  • Assist in creating and updating tax rates and tax schedules in the Great Plains and Key2Act systems, as required. 

  • Administrate Vertex compliance software and document any new processes for newly acquired companies. 

  • Reconcile sales tax payable account to sales report to ensure sales tax returns are calculated correctly. 

  • Prepare intercompany Journal Entries and distribute to controllers. 

  • Prepare use tax accrual entries and job cost accrual entries from multiple data sources. 

  • Issue resale certificates and W-9’s. 

  • Post sales tax credit memos and debit memos for service invoices in Great Plains. (ERP) 

  • Review construction jobs for final tax entries to close jobs, including reviewing contracts and other documentation in the construction job folders. 

  • Assist with Sales tax audits as need. 

  • Assist with annual personal property tax filings. 

  • Assist with preparation of income tax work papers for provision and annual federal & state returns.  

     

 


 

Job Requirements


 

  • Self-motivated individual with the ability to meet project deadlines
  • Advanced Excel skills are required.
  • Ability to analyze data.
  • 5+ years calculating, compiling, and filing sales and use tax returns
  • Experience with a national construction or engineering company is highly preferred.
  • Organized professional with exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to understand and follow all company policies and procedures and all applicable State and Federal laws
  • Experience with account reconciliations and understanding accounting concepts
  • Bachelor’s degrees in accounting, finance or similar
